I purchased this remote so I could start doing self-portraits of my family and to help with very slow shutter speed shots on a tripod (I haven’t figured out how to not shake the camera when I press the shutter button without using the timer). I tested it out from various angles and it worked well. I had the same issue as others when standing at an angle; the lens or the grip gets in the way if you are standing too far to one side or the other. However, I feel that this has more to do with the placement of the sensor on the Canon EOS Rebel XSi (or similar cameras) than the quality of the remote. As with other IR (infrared) remotes, it only works when the line of sight is unobstructed. If you cover up the end of your TV remote or stand too far to one side, you will have the same result.

As for the working distance, I pulled out my tape measure to test this one. The remote worked consistently (from straight ahead) up to 25 feet. Beyond 25 feet, it instantly stopped working. It became increasingly more inconsistent at a shorter distance when as I adjusted the angle.

As for the remote design, it’s kind of annoying that there are so many buttons that are useless. The top two buttons, “S” and “2S”, work well, but none of the other buttons work with the Canon XSi. However, this is simply the hazard of buying a universal remote like this one. I’m assuming these buttons perform their designated functions on another camera model. The instruction sheet that came with the remote was also completely useless, as it didn’t even tell you the difference between the “S” and “2S” buttons. I just pointed the remote at the camera and figured it out through trial-and-error. This was simple enough to figure out, but you would think this would be included in the instructions, since ones were provided.

My overall assessment is that this remote does what it’s designed to do at a cheaper price than the Canon version. It’s constructed well and easily fits in my hand and my bag. I can’t say it’s a must have, but I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a remote and are okay with a universal-type remote that would seem to perform just as well as the brand name version. I can’t really justify giving this 5-stars, since the Canon options are clearly better as they are designed for Canon cameras. However, this one performs as designed and is a good price.

Canon, which is well known throughout the world for its quality cameras, released the Canon EOS Rebel digital camera on August 20th of 2003. At this time there were other well known digital cameras on the market but the new features of the Canon EOS Rebel digital camera made this digital camera well worth looking into.

The various camera experts who have reviewed this Canon camera state that the price tag of $900 makes this a moderately priced digital camera that you can buy in various countries around the world.

If you are looking to buy your camera outside of the United States you might want to be aware of what the Canon EOS Rebel digital camera is called in other countries. For instance the Canon EOS Rebel digital camera will be called the Canon EOS 300D in Europe and in Japan you will hear it being referred to as the Kiss Digital.

For the digital camera enthusiast there is also a Canon EOS Rebel digital camera kit that can be bought. This kit contains an EF-S 18-55 mm 3x lens. The price of the entire digital camera kit is $100, more than the single camera.

The various specifications of the Canon EOS Rebel digital camera include a 6 megapixel CMOS sensor and image processor. The sensor and image processor are housed in the inexpensive plastic body of the digital camera.

To help their customers buy this camera the people at Canon have given the Canon EOS Rebel digital camera a pentamirror instead of a pentaprism. These various modifications have helped to reduce the cost of this camera, which therefore makes this digital camera more affordable.

There are a host of new features that you can find in the Canon EOS Rebel digital camera. These features include contrast, saturation and sharpness settings which can be adjusted for your various needs. There is also a new default parameter setting on the Canon EOS Rebel digital camera which is referred to as Parameter 1.

The Canon EOS Rebel digital camera was the first digital camera to support the use of a new lens called EF-S. The S in the lens’s name stands for short back focus. This lens can only be used with the Canon EOS Rebel digital camera as the other Canon Rebel series cameras will not have the necessary support for this lens.

For the enthusiastic novice or professional photographer, the Canon EOS Rebel digital camera is for you. The many great interesting features and functions to be found on the camera coincide very nicely with the reasonable price tag on it which only makes the camera more appealing.

I recently purchased this flash for my Canon Rebel XS and was a little worried about buying a flash that didnt have the Canon name on it, but when I looked at the price difference between the Canon 430 and this, I decided I would try this out. So far, I am quite impressed with the flash. The flash level seems bright but not too bright and with a omnibounce diffuser on it, it takes great pictures in low light settings. The reason I gave this a four rather than a five is that it does have a little bit of a cheap plastic feel to it and since it is not a Canon, you can not do as much adjusting with the flash inside the camera. Overall great product, especially for those on a budget, need a spare flash, or just starting in the DSLR world.

The flash was a little difficult to use at first. I was in a gym at a volleyball game and the lighting was very dim. I had to adjust the flash several different times to acquire a clear picture – which meant I missed some “Kodak” moments. I am learning how to bounce the light but overall it is a good product.

Great value for this product. I’ve been using it for about 4 months and can confidently recommend it. Bright, with new batteries (rechargables) recycle time was 1 s. Simple functions, lightweight and stellar with a soft box. Great as an off camera flash too.

Look, if you want to compare a $500 Canon Speedlite to this $50 product you’re barking up the wrong tree. I don’t see Motor Trend comparing an Acura with a Yugo. But if you want a great intro flash to learn about strobes then you can’t beat this deal.

I bought this for my daughters Canon EOS XSi, which she uses for her photography class.

She got about a month worth of use from it, then it died. Just beyond the return policy limit. Go figure.

Qualiy was just ok… maybe 8/10. Could be a little more solid in my mind.

Functionality was about a 9/10. Not bad for a $50 flash.

I really like(d) the telescoping flash lens, which converts the flash from direct to diffused flash instantly without adding a separate diffuser. VERY nice feature.

I would give it a 4/5 if it did not die on me so soon.

For the price, this flash is fine for simpler projects. The multi directional swivel capability is great. It locks and releases easily onto my Canon 350D. I used it for portrait session and it was cool. When I attempted to move around with it and shoot more spontaneously, the flash reset proved to be rather slow and cause me to miss an important shot — no rapid fire. Make sure to replace batteries often, because the more you use the flash, the slower it resets.

I purchased this product because I wanted to take family portraits and the first one I purchased didn’t work well at all It was good only at a distance of 13ft. This one can handle 300+ feet. It worked like a charm and I got great family photos without spending an $800 sitting fee for a photographer who would not give me the copyrights. I saved a bundle!

No more running while the timer is ticking down. And it is a great solution for long exposures on macro work to avoid motion artifacts and for sharpest focus. Note when you receive the package, the included batteries are wrapped in a clear plastic that is not obvious and isn’t mentioned in the manual. They will appear to be dead because there is no electrical contact till the clear packaging is removed.

Irvin December 8, 2009 at 3:52 am

Buy it if you need the distance without line of sight. The infrared remotes are completley annoying and inferior to this one.

Keppler December 8, 2009 at 4:43 am

I’ve used the remote release in various wather conditions…even wrapped it in a “baggie” and used it on several rainy days. I put the camera and remote release in a plexiglass housing and took a few underwater photos of coral (shallow) and fishes….Though it is not advertised as such, the radio transmitter device works just fine underwater at a distance of at least 20 feet. I like the device and will buy one more for a spare.

This product works very well. I use it with a Canon Rebel and it does exactly what it says it does. The is probably the best purchase I have made for my camera…the only trouble I had was in Burst Mode it kept going and going (could have been user error) overall, great product.

Lechtenberg December 8, 2009 at 7:05 am

Please, all of you who want to take good portraits don’t buy this piece of junk. When I received this wrinkled up piece of plastic in the mail, I immediately took it out of it’s package and placed it in the trash.

Janss December 8, 2009 at 8:31 am

I used this with my 430EX Speedlite on my Canon Rebel. It was terrible. I tried it a million different ways and it still looked pretty much identical to what it looks like without it. I would not recommend it.

Kozak December 8, 2009 at 9:18 am

very simple

cheap and flimsy in a good way

does the job at a price any starving artist can afford!

timely delivery

great condition

Ai December 8, 2009 at 10:29 am

This takes too long to unfold and attach to the flash and easy to bump and knock off or deform. Once you get it set up, it does work.
