Before I made the purchase I called 47th Street Photo to make sure the Opteka LP-E6 battery free from issues like non-displaying battery capacity and incompatibility with the Canon charger. The sales guy promised “100% compatibility” and said “you’re NOT going to experience these problems”. When the package arrived, I found on the back that they do NOT communicate with the Canon 5D II body and CANNOT be charged with the Canon charger. Sales craps aside, the two batteries did work except they could only be charged with the charger coming with the package. The whole thing is made in China, despite its Japaneses-sounding name. The material and workmanship seem fine. The battery carries a 2-year warranty.
Upon switching on the 5D II, you’ll encounter a message: “Cannot communicate with battery. Use this battery?” If you choose “OK”, the cammera will operate with the sign of “battery empty” on the top screen all the time. I haven’t got the chance to run them down yet but apparently they are OK. Compared to stories of other third party batteries overheating or exploding on the Canon charger, this one at least is safe: just won’t charge.
As I was searching around, a Cameta Camera sales person informed me that “currently none of the third party LP-E6 batteries can communicate with the Canon 5D II body or be charged on the Canon charger.” If that is true, it’ll be up to your tolerance of the “battery empty” symbol.
So you want to mount your Canon Digital SLR on a tripod to get better digital pictures. Excellent - now you need a way to trip the shutter without moving the camera. You could use the camera's built-in self-timer, but your subject may be long gone until it fires. The canon remote Switch RS-80N3 may be the answer for you.
The Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3 is a very simple device - it simply plugs into the side of compatible (there are many) Canon EOS Digital SLR cameras. Compatible cameras include the Canon EOS 1D, 1Ds, 1DS MARK II, 1DS Mark III, 1D Mark II, 1D Mark III, 5D, 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, D30, D60 ... Missing an N3 port, the Rebel series (4xxD) models as of this writing are not compatible. Try the Canon RC-1 Wireless Remote Release for at least most these models).
There is one button on the Canon Canon EOS 5D Mark II camera Remote Switch RS-80N3. Like the camera's shutter release, the RS-80N3 supports a half-press or full press - which releases the shutter. In addition, the remote release button slides forward while pressed in - this will lock the shutter open in B (Bulb) mode(panasonic rp).
Pictured above is the Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3 beside the larger, more expensive and more capable Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3. The Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3 is very light but relatively expensive but valuable to own - it is a valuable piece of kit to have.
The RS-80N3 Remote Switch has a 2.6ft cord to prevent camera shake for super telephoto shots, macrophotography, and bulb exposures.The Remote Switch works just like a shutter button, enabling halfway or complete pressing. It also has a shutter-release lock. Its quick-lock plug connects to the new N-3 type remote control socket
The Canon Remote Switch RS-80N3 (remote switch, 80 cm cord, N3 plug) is built for midrange digital and high end Canon film and digital cameras. It’s really simple and straightforward - a small plastic box with a sliding pushbutton locking switch. That’s really all there is to it. It’s perhaps a tiny bit big for travel purposes, but it’s a really comfortable size to hold and operate, I find. It uses a locking-ring N3 plug to connect to a camera, and has a small recess on the back which I believe is used to store removable rubber caps for those cameras which have such caps over their remote control terminals. This recess isn’t the right size to store the end of the remote’s plug when it’s not in use. N3 is a proprietary locking plug and socket system created by Canon for their cameras and is not an industry-standard design.

It work OK.But it is moving around. I wish that they make one for use the Nikon lens on Sony DSLR, and with the electrical contacts, so it will work with the apertures( atomatic contral the apperature)
Be careful, it may tend to get stuck if you try it on older Nikon lenses.
This is not meant for moving between lenses. Construction doesn’t hold up over repeated use; the tab is pretty weak. Also doesn’t enable wide-angle (28mm and below) lenses to adapt to the Canon body.
It is a nice adapter an easy to use.Al the specifications are correct.I recomend is use in the EOS cameras.
The adapter fit exactly right and allowed the use of all my Nikon F-2A lenses on the Canon Digital. Saved me a fortune in new lenses at an unbelievably cheap price.
For the price, you cannot go wrong. The cord COULD be longer, made of better material… or I COULD have dropped $400 on some pocket wizards… nah. I just wanted to get the flash OFF the camera.
GET THIS CORD! So worth the price of a tank of gas!
I am not sure where the problems lie with the other reviewers who have written that this product is not recognized by the camera, but it is for me. I have a 5D Mark II and it’s recognition of the flash is the exact same as if there were no intermediary cable.
However, the technical specs where it is stated that the cable extends up to 4′ is absolutely incorrect unless, possibly, completely uncoiled. It effectively is a 2′ extension and with the 270EX, it’s all that is needed. For my Quantum Trio, I use a Stroboframe for distance.
I would recommend this product to anyone with a Canon camera. It should be no problem unless the camera is older.
