Very convenient small size, and great color (in vivid mode), and great sharpness (in default lens setting). Telephoto images (even in just the optical range) are disappointing due to degraded sharpness (even in bright light conditions).
For a camera of this cost (nearly $300 in late 2007) some design aspects are disappointing. Specifically, the tiny recessed plastic on/off button broke a few months after the 1 year warranty expired. It doesn’t make a difference how good a camera is if you cannot turn it on. I assume this is a design issue common to the SD Elph series.

Why Does The Canon A630 seem to Take Better Pictures then the SD750? when the SD750 has DiGiC lll?
ok so DIGIC lll (which only the sd750 has)has face detection technology and it says outstanding image quality(reading off the canon flyer)While the A630 only has DIGIC lli know that the A630 has a higher MP its 8MPand the Canon PowerShot A630 8MP Camera sd750 is 7.1MPbut does it make that much of difference?Is it just me, cuz it seems when viewing sample photos, that the A630 is better in image quality...how come even with the SD750's Digic lll, and it's "Face Detection Technology", that potrait photos on the A630 have better color and is more clean and crisp comparing to the sd750's portrait photos?if ur gonna say its cuz a630 has a larger sensor,tell me what a sensor is? I love the flip-screen, and AA batteries. I’ve taken 1,000’s of pics with this one. Canon is great. I’ll only pick Canon cams. I’ve worked with Canons since 1983.
I previously had purchased the Canon PowerShot A610 and was so satisfied with the convenience of use and quality of the picture that I decided to look for another one as a backup for my point-and-shot activities. I was pleased to find out that I could still purchase a camera from the series even though it is no longer currently on the market. I was fortunate to find a new one on Amazon and quickly grabbed it up. I opted for the A630 which has 8 MP and a 3″ articulated screen vs. the 5 MP and 2.5″ screen on my old A610. I am very pleased with my purchase and the A630 has met my expectations for a reliable and quality point-and-shot camera. I use it on my hiking trips all the time to capture the moment. It’s one of the few cameras that offer an articulated viewer – a feature that I use all the time.
We had an older Canon Powershot A95…and it lasted quite a while..it had a pretty hard life…so we upgraded to the A630..it does all the same stuff. It has a higher resolution and a better zoom. It has one less feature on the turnstyle, but it is not missed. The one thing that we can do with this camera that we couldn’t w/the A95 is zoom in while you are taking video..that is a great feature. The camera also takes 4 AA batteries, it is great to get rechargables. It is a little heavier and bulkier than most digital cameras out there..but it is a little lighter than the A95…and still fits into a purse. The A630 does take an SD card where the A95 took a Compact Flash card..so you can’t use your old memory…but SD’s aren’t that expensive. The camera came in great shape…we love it!
I am one of those that like and enjoy take pictures with my family and friends and I want also to be in the picture. This is the only Camera that I found that let me do this because I can flip the lcd screen toward any direction and see me in that acreen.
