PROS: portable, nice images, extensive features for a point-and-shoot
CONS: longevity of less than a year, poor customer service
Yes, it’s small in size, large in features, and takes very nice pictures. But in less than a year, this camera has been rendered functionally useless. Following just 10 months of normal usage, it no longer takes still shots (but works on video) and intermittently fails to turn on. Canon’s 1-yr warranty was still in effect — we were grateful at first — but this proved to be a false hope. After an initial notice of “this will be promptly repaired for you,” a few days later Canon’s customer (dis)service CONVENIENTLY found corrosion damage from water(?!), which we dispute completely, and declined to repair it. Either this camera is susceptible to condensation from sitting in a dry pocket or Canon is dishing out horse manure while slithering off the hook — we suspect the latter.
Couple the poor reliability of this camera with disingenuous warranty service, and suddenly Canon has lost us as a faithful customer. We’ll look at Nikon, Pentax, and plenty of other worthy competitors instead. We urge you to do the same.
I purchased the Canon SD770IS to substitute a PowerShot A95. Few years ago, I purchased a Digital Elph for my daughter and found myself using that small and light camera instead of my A95. Given the advancements in technology, it was time to upgrade.
The most essential feature in searching for a replacement was the small size and the use of a rechargeable battery. The resolution was less of a factor as the A95, with just five Mpixels, created clear shots. The most notable advance, even over the recent Elph, was the increased speed of all functions including boot up and picture recording.
Picture quality is amazing, with the color proportion and metering being brilliant. If you now own a Canon digital camera and you are thinking of buying a new one, the standard navigation of characteristics remains mainly the same, so that will be well known to you. The access to the camera's shooting modes is available from the menus, rather than using a physical dial as on the A95.
The screen is pretty Canon PowerShot SD770IS Digital 10MP Camera big, well illuminated and easy to view, even in bright light. Ultimately, the most essential condition with digital picture taking should be image quality and ease of use. I have a lot of experience with manual SLR picture cameras and similar point and shoots, and this model suits perfectly for true "turn it on and shoot" photography. Pictures are crisp and vivid with solid detail and vibrant color.
The luminosity measure does a great job of assessing the scene and choosing the best possible combination of shutter speed and aperture.
A high capacity (SDHC) storage card will hold a large amount of photographs even at the highest resolution. Uploading photos to a PC or Mac is smooth with either the provided software or Apple's iPhoto software, which works seamlessly with the camera. I would recommend both a high capacity SD card and the optional leather case to protect the camera, especially if dropped.
This camera just blows me away. It takes amazing pictures in full-auto mode. In situations where full-auto doesn't quite do the job as well as possible, this camera lets you change ISO settings, white balance, focus method, and tons of other factors.
Compared to the S110, I thought the ability to change the ISO setting was a big improvement over previous generations. You're actually changing the sensitivity of the sensor in the camera, allowing you to take pictures with more clarity in conditions that have less light. This, coupled with the image stabilization allows you not to use flash, preserve the real look of the scene, and take a crispy clear picture.

I extremely recommend this camera for someone looking for an easy-to-use, light, small and good digital camera. It's just a superb camera at a great price.
Help answer the question about Canon PowerShot SD770IS Digital 10MP Camera
Which digital camera should I get?
At some point, I'll be looking into a DSLR but now is not that time. Right now I'm looking for a good (preferably great) point and shoot. I'd consider myself an advanced amateur at this point. I'm currently torn between the Nikon Coolpix S600 (10mp), the Canon PowerShot SD770IS Canon PowerShot SD770IS Digital 10MP Camera (10mp), Canon PowerShot SD950IS (12.1mp -- I know the "more is better" argument but as I don't really enlarge my pictures I'm a bit skeptical and it is a substantial price jump) and the Canon PowerShot SD890IS (10mp). I'm also sort of looking at Canon's A series, specifically Canon PowerShot A650IS, but I'm not sure about the A-battery requirement. Any thoughts?Anyone have any experience with any of these? Any insights? Based on what I'm looking at, would you recommend something totally different? I'm looking to order very quickly so any answers would be appreciated! Then again, there's also Nikon's p5100 or p80.
