Love the camera. Does what I expected. Arrived on time and packed well. Only disappointment was the very tiny tripod. Bought another one for $20 and am now zooming in on landscapes everywhere. Thanks.

A camera can do so much for you yet it gets taken for granted so often. Something that captures your memories should be cherished, unless it's of bad quality. Your memories aren't pixilated, fuzzy, and blurry are they? Well, we're not talking about the bar in this hypothetical statement, but usually they aren't. So why on earth would you settle for a less than adequate camera? the Canon Powershot SD990 IS is more than adequate and it also beats it's predecessors like the Canon Powershot A590IS.
I'll tell you why; price. Everything is so expensive now, sales taxes are being issued on the internet more often, tons of people are getting laid off, it's all going to hell. Why buy a camera then, especially when a nice one like the Canon Powershot A590IS is so cheap? Well, simply put, we need Canon PowerShot A1000IS 10MP Camera to preserve the good memories to help us out of the bad ones. You can't do that with a $100 dollar, poorly constructed, mini camera. You need an excellent camera and it isn't even that heavily priced.
For $320 the Canon Powershot SD990IS will deliver amazing digital photographs with fifteen megapixels. FIF-TEEN. That is almost twice as much as the Canon Powershot A590IS, which has 8. Not to mention the face detection, an amazing recent new feature in most cameras. The face detector will even find the faces for you when you put it on self timer, amazing, huh? This camera is a steal in it's truest and most legal form. Ok, I can hear the skepticism from across the room; "I don't know what that means! I'm old!". Ok, ok, I'll slow it down for you.
The Canon Powershot SD990IS's highest resolution is at 4416 x 2480, that is the highest resolution this camera can go. Yes, that is very big, larger a normal LCD wide screen computer monitor. More proof? Alright, 4x stabilized digital zoom, meaning, you can take a picture of that pimple on your prepubescent son's nose and it'll be in 15 megapixel definition still. Still not convinced? Easy printing and Red Eye correction. The camera will fix red eye for you, and can print the picture at the click of a button.
The Canon Powershot SD990IS is a revolutionary, affordable and entertaining camera. It pushes the envelope with it's 15 megapixel and face detection. Be a professional photographer with 3 times less the price and make memories today. The Canon Powershot A590IS is good too if you're really on a budget but I wouldn't recommend it. Regardless, if you're going to buy a camera, go Canon.!
Help answer the question about Canon PowerShot A1000IS 10MP Camera
Canon PowerShot A1000IS or SD890IS?
They're both 10MP. That's about as far as my level of understanding goes. I will be using this for a Canon PowerShot A1000IS 10MP Camera vacation in D.C. so it will be used indoor and outdoor. The A1000 is going for $150 while the SD890 is going for $170.Sorry, I know you guys probably get this kind of question all the time, but I'm a camera dummy so I need some help. Also, what size SD card do you recommend?

This is a wonderful camera for the basic photographer! It has everything you need and so much more! The pictures are amazing quality for the price, and there is also a feature on it where the camera zooms in to the faces of the people in the picture so that you can see if they are blinking or smiling before you even take the pic! It’s a great camera for an amazing price! I HIGHLY recommend this one!!
The camera works great. I used it at my granddaughter’s birthday and it kept up with her moving and running around. Pictures came out good and clear. It was easy to use and I don’t take pictures all that often. I took over a 120 pictures on a battery which had not been charged since before Thanksgiving. Great little camera.
The camera is great! My daughter loves it and it is small and portable. The camera charges with a small charger and looks great. I gave it 4 stars, not because of the camera, but because of the kit it came with. The value is pretty good considering that you get an extra battery, camera case that matches well to pink camera and other assorted stuff. However, just letting you know that the extra battery it comes with is NOT Canon. I honestly didn’t try the extra battery yet because the first one the camera comes with is still charged, but I was kind of surprised because it didn’t say it outright in the description. Soooo, good value, but ??? about the extra battery.
bought new from amazon 21 december 08 from the get go got error for lens and low battery even with new battery the camera has been back to canon 3 times for repair it last a couple of months then goes out and again yesterday 5 dec 09 for what i have in shipping i could have bought better camera neither canon or amazon will do anything about be aware
Excellent image quality…optical image stabilizer works great! My second Canon camera (also have the S3IS) and they both take excellent pictures and are easy to use for the novice or intermediate photographer. Had a Sony compact camera in between…will never buy a Sony again…any motion by the shooter resulted in absolute blur. I’ve used my Canons on boats and the images are still crisp despite the motion. My future cameras will all be Canons!!!
It’s a bit overwhelming when you’re researching digital cameras. So many makes and models. And no one wants to get stuck with a lemon.
I think Canon has pretty much perfect the point-and-shoot digital camera. There’s dedicated switches for those things needing “switching”, dedicated buttons for those things needing “buttoning”, etc. Go ahead, use a digital camera from 4-5 years ago when manufacturers were still figuring out what was really necessary, what users needed to get to quickly, and you’ll see what I mean.
This camera is fine. Solid construction. Since you don’t need anywhere near 10 megapixels, set it at 6 and you’ll be happy. The menus make sense. The batteries can die when you’re in East Botswania and you can replace them.
It is a TAD big for the pocket (for a guy) and it’s surprisingly heavy if you’re a wimp like me and have a man purse. Not “heavy” per se, just heavy enough that you definitely notice when it’s not in your bag. Actually, being a little heavy in that regard could be a good thing.
So stop reading endless reviews. You have better things to do with your time. Buy this camera. Then go buy 4 rechargeable AAs and a charger for $15 from Target. Just don’t drop it on the lens like I did… unless you’re looking for an excuse to upgrade.
