I just purchased a Coolpix L100 and am loving it so far. I mainly plan to use it as a point-and-shoot, and haven’t gotten to check out all the features yet. Picture quality and zoom are great.
One issue I found annoying was with the accessory kit that I also purchased. It comes with a rapid charger and 4 NIMH batteries, but the owners manual for the camera says “do not use rechargable batteries”. Wish I had known that ahead of time. Also, the mini-tripod is pretty much a joke.

I bought this camera because our old camera didn’t have the quality we were looking for. Most of the extras in this package are not necessary for what I will be using the camera for; however, it’s a great deal anyway. I tried the camera out before wrapping it back up for Christmas and was very pleased with it, including the 18x zoom (which is awesome) and the video camera feature. The shipping was extremely quick and was very pleased with doing business with Big Value Inc. I must admit, I was a little weary purchasing it from a company with that name; however, after a little bit of research and the experience, I would defiantly purchase from them again!
I recieved this for Christmas and believe me–it’s amazing and I can’t believe the deal that Big Value Inc. gave my grandmother. The camera itself is a little complicated to operate at first, but easy to get the hang of. It’s barely been a week and I’ve already taken 500+ pictures. Lenses and filters are in prime condition. Buy this. You won’t regret it.

Excellent product, functional. Only one problem, when taking pictures in a very sunny day it is hard to see the display in the screen. Thanks
Easy to use, we know nothing about digital and now have ability to send photos via e-mail. The pics look great. The screen is nice and big too. This camera is all all good good good. We tried a Kodak. It sucked, hard to use, couldn’t even get it to turn on half the time & only saw the picks on the camera’s screen. Never got them to transfr to the computer. What we did see was poor quality. Then it just quit working all togehter and went into the tash. Nikon Good Buy $$, Good Product, We Love it!!!
I wanted a new camera for an upcoming event – something with a decent zoom and high quality. After some looking around I decided on the Nikkon Coolpix L100 as a good compromise between price and the features I wanted. I elected to buy the kit since the additional cost over and above the cameral was negligible considering what extras came with it. Having received it and used it for a few weeks now I’ll say that I’m happy with the purchase.
The camera itself is fairly compact, has a 15x optical zoom with some additional digital zoom and takes pictures up to 10 MP. It takes four AA batteries and an SD memory card and comes with shoulder strap and lens cap. I’m very pleased with the camera. It powers up quickly and pictures snap fast. The zoom goes from wide to tight and back very quickly using the W/T knob and all other interfaces are push button. The LCD screen displays sharp images on a 3.0″ screen.
There are several settings – Auto, sports, close up – and it goes on to have even more sub settings like: Party, sunset, outside, food (in case I snap a shot right before I eat) and more. I’m no professional but I’ve used auto and close up and both yield great photos. There is an Easy Auto mode but I’ve found this less than useful. Supposedly it selects the best setting and/or sub setting for your picture depending on lighting, movement, flash, whatever – it’s too distracting for me and I wasn’t always thrilled with the results so like standard auto much better. The flash is flipped up or down manually. Some may not like this but I do. It’s very easy to tell if the flash is on or off this way as opposed to other cameras where I’d have to repeatedly press a button to cycle through flash settings. There are also several in cameral editing tools.
Last on the camera is power consumption. I’ve been impressed. My previous camera was much smaller and only took 2 batteries but it would eat those up on a matter of minutes with just intermittent use – I’m talking alkaline batteries here. The L100 takes 4 but they’ve lasted for days each, way more than twice as long and on a more robust camera. I can’t wait to stick some lithiums in there and see how long they last. Incidentally the manual says to NOT use rechargeable batteries but one of the optional batteries in the camera menu is Coolpix Ni-Mh so that’s confusing (I’m thinking you really can if you want to but maybe it’s not the recommended type).
The kit itself seemed worth the extra [...] bucks or so as it came with – a nice carrying case with strap, lens cleaning cloth, 8 GB memory card, extra batteries (in addition to those that come with the camera), a mini tripod (honestly they took the prefix “mini” seriously here – it’s tiny but still a nice addition), a memory card reader (don’t really need it but hey), a battery charger that charges both AAA and AA size (again the instructions say not to use rechargeables for the camera but it never hurts to have a charger around for other things) and a memory card “wallet”. Of course all the cables and image transfer software are there as well.
I’m having fun using this camera and am looking forward to taking it to my event.
It was a good election. It has most features you are looking for.
For me the best is the optic.
I’m definitely a novice. There’s a lot I need to learn in order to be able to take better photos, but this camera is easy to use. I can take pretty good pictures with it…just pointing and shooting. I haven’t learned a lot about the settings yet, but I’m sure that when I do, my photos will be even better! So far, I have captured some really great photos of my kids and of the mountain scenery here where I live! The camera is fun to use, and I figure I will just keep experimenting with it to see what works for me! I cannot believe Nikon has discontinued this camera! The Nikon Coolpix P80 is easily portable. I carry it in a large padded camera bag that will hold other accessories and other “non-camera” things that I need to carry with me. It could easily be carried in a much smaller bag with all the things that you need just for the camera…extra batteries, extra memory cards, etc. It’s very light weight and easy to use. It’s the kind of camera that makes a novice want to learn more about taking really good photos!
This camera is the best camera that I have ever had. Yes, there probably are better cameras, but I have never experienced them and this camera works just the way I need it to. This lightweight camera has amazing features and takes the best pictures. My favorite feature on the camera is the rapid action shot. On the dial wheel, you can find it by locating the picture of a runner running. That feature is really good when you need to take pictures of children running and playing around or, my favorite, when you take fireworks. I have gotten some really good shots of fireworks at just the right moment. Shots that would not have been possible if I have not had this shot. All in all, I definitely recommend that you get this camera for all of your photography needs. This lightweight, attractive, reasonably cheap camera is the perfect camera for you!
I bought this camera as a gift for my boyfriend. I didn’t want to overwhelm him with a DSLR. This camera works great as a point-and-shoot but with the flexibility of a few more advanced options. But the major selling point of this camera for me was its incredible optical zoom. Most point-and-shoots won’t take you to 18x. And I really wanted my gift to rival the more expensive DSLR models. He loves the camera…although I will admit that’s partly because it has the famous Nikon brand attached to it. And the rapid-shot mode is totally awesome! It’s really cool seeing the frame-by-frame effect when shooting a subject in motion. The closest competition I remember seeing are Canon cameras. If you’re shopping for an amateur photo buff, this camera is the perfect fit. They’ll get great photos without having to be an expert.
This is a great little camera!
It’s light, but still has enough of a body to really hold on to and get a steady shot.
A memory card or two is a must. Set on the highest megapixels, I found that the camera itself will only hold about 39 images, but the memory cards are pretty cheap.
If you’re going to take pictures all day, a second battery is a must as well. But if you have down town between shoots or activities, it also charges quickly.
I love my CoolPix P80
i know my cameras and to keep this review short all you need to know is
this camera is SLOW, TERRIBLE quality after iso 200 and ive seen
better performance in a regular point and shoot by canon.
