I bought this camera because of Sony’s history of making excellent products. Boy was I disappointed! After a few weeks the camera would turn off by itself, flash internal diagnostic malfunctions, and basically just refuse to work. Not only is it useless but it burns through batteries (rechargeable and alkalines) faster than the speed of light. I usually got less than 15 pictures or four minutes of video. I could not find my receipt to return it but with shipping and drama I have decided to turn it into a boat anchor instead and live-and-learn. Reading other negative reviews about this product I can only surmise somebody was asleep at the switch when Sony designed this camera. I have continued to grow dissatisfied with other Sony products and will buy from their competitors from now on.

Sony is one of the best photo digital camera producers and this result is confirmed especially by their clients, who almost never complain regarding the product quality. Sony photo digital camera offer is wide ranging from 2 mega pixel cameras to over 8 mega pixel. In the following lines I will describe some Sony photo digital cameras characteristics with a variable price from several hundred dollars to over a thousand.

Cybershot DSC-T10 is a high performance Sony photo digital camera that is in many ways alike its predecessor the T30. What I like about it is the SteadyShot Optical Image Stabilizer that helps you take a decent shoot even in harsh conditions. Among its features I will point the 7.2 mega pixels, decent optical zoom 3x, Automatic focus and exposure, supports JPEG format, a movie mode with sound and 2.5 inch LCD. This Sony photo digital camera comes with 56 MB internal memory Sony Cybershot DSC-S600 Camera and Li-Ion battery.

Sony Alpha a100 is a true SLR (Single Lens Reflex), and if we are fair it is the first Sony photo digital camera real SLR. Many like to say that the A100 is the successor of the K-M Maxxum. Here are its specifications: an impressive 10 mega pixels, very nice lens Sony Alpha/Minolta A-Type. This Sony photo digital camera has image stabilization; it can switch between auto and manual focus and exposure, ISO 80 - 1600; it supports JPEG and RAW formats and has lithium - ion battery.

CyberShot H5 is a Sony photo digital camera with an awesome 12x optical zoom and 7.2 MP sensors being one of the best offers on the market. It comes with a larger LCD of no more then 3.0 inch LCD which is really nice especially if you want to actually use de 12x optical zoom. Check the specifications: 7.2 mega pixels combined with a 12x optical and 2x digital zoom. The CyberShot H5 Sony photo digital camera has optical image stabilization and can turn from auto to manual focus or exposure, ISO 80 - 1000, it supports JPEG format and has a nice movie mode, 2AA batteries, a 3.0 inch LCD screen and a 32MB internal memory.

CyberShot T50 is one of those Sony photo digital cameras that won't stop selling, because they're good, affordable with a nice and attractive look. The Sony photo digital camera comes in 3 colors silver, black and red. Its sensor has 7.2 mega pixels, the screen is more then enough 3.0 inch LCD, and its optical image stabilization option is a life savior. It has 7.2 mega pixels, 3x optical zoom and a 2x digital zoom, an auto focus and exposure and it supports JPEG format. You can make movie with sound, ISO 80 - 1000, internal memory of 56 MB, Optical Image Stabilization and 3.0 LCD, and the batteries are also good lithium - ion.

I love this camera, it takes great pictures, it is so user friendly, and is built like a tank but is really light. I have taken exelent pictures with the open shutter mode on the camera and the color options are awesome. This camera is so easy to use, you turn it on, you press the button and you have a picture, press menu and you have all of these settings at your figertips! I dropped this camera many times, the last one i dropped it on the ground and the memory slot opened and the card popped out! (opps!) but it works just like it always does. This camera is made for everyone, the pro photographer, the middle user, and the person who is new to photography. I would recemend sony and any of it’s exellent cameras to everyone.

My daughters camera seems to be experiencing the same problem as others. She bought it at 14 years old with her own $ to take on a school field trip to Washington. She took about 50 shots and then the power button would only work randomly or the lense would freeze coming out or closing. Being an electrical engineer I would guess that the motor for the cover/lens draws so much current that the battery voltage drops so low that the camera shuts off. I have tried brand new Eveready Copper tops with no luck. If I try it 4 or 5 times and can’t coax it to life I can sometimes set it to view the pictures and then slide it over to the take picture mode and it will stay on. I feel bad as I talked her into a $300 Sony telling her to buy a good brand name and it would last for years. Tough lesson for a 14 year old spending babysitting money!

After reading some of the other reviews here, I feel I must also report on/off problems with this camera. Sometimes it works fine, but most of the time when you turn the camera on it will either briefly power up and then immediately shut off or stay on for a few seconds and then shut off. I have changed batteries repeatedly, so it isn’t dead batteries, although it does seem to suck the life out of batteries very quickly.

I’ve had this camera since late 2006 and it worked fine for a little over a year. I can see two possible causes.

1.) Defective on/off switch.
2.) Poorly designed battery compartment. The connectors are so tiny here and recessed into the cover, I don’t see how they can make good contact with the batteries. There also seems to be some room for the batteries to wiggle within the compartment which may cause intermittent contact.

I like the camera when it works, but now I am debating whether to spend the money to send it to Sony for repair. If the problem is #1 (above), what’s to stop the switch from going bad again. If it’s #2, this is a flaw in the camera design and probably can’t be fixed.

Pretty good all around camera for what it is. Battery usage is not bad, don’t use rechargeables or you will be disappointed in the performance. You can take lots of pictures with a 1gig care before its full. Uses AA batteries which are easily obtainable almost anywhere.

Picture quality is pretty good, focuses pretty easily. Movies are pretty good. Overall an easy to use camera.

Rated a 4 because it is inexpensive.

A terrible camera, gave me nothing but trouble since day 1 – and, of course, the warranty only applies in the US. Too many problems to list but most annoying is the unreliability. I lost several photo shoots due to it.

I had used the DSC-S500’s predecessors and was very pleased. Sony made some changes, however, that I found to be a pain. They switched to regular batteries from rechargable batteries, which means more batteries in the landfill. There is also a long delay when shooting and the color is even more blue (even by Sony’s standards). After using this camera for 2 years, many of the buttons don’t work – so I can’t go through the menu to change settings.

I got this camera about two years ago and it’s still going! Broken battery cap and all! I have a tendency to drop things, and this camera is no exception, but it never breaks on me. It’s cracked in a couple places and, yes, the battery cap is falling off, but it still takes stunning pictures! I’m constantly impressed by the quality of the photos. I take it everywhere with me and it refuses to break (no matter how badly I want one of those fancy new ones). So, if you’re a klutz like me, this is the camera for you!

Cons: On speed is slow. Auto focus is slow and take several blur images. It’s not durable. The front finish wear in less than a year. The battery fail to connect. And the Sony service is very bad at least in Panama.
Pros: Great Screen, small size, good quality pictures (when take focused).

Birdwell December 8, 2009 at 10:17 am

PROs
1) The quality is excellent.
2) Easy to function
CONs
1) It used batteries.
2) I have to press at least 2 seconds in order to snap a shot.
3) No shake control
